Bokor Mountain, In Kampot

·   0

Bokor Mountain is a Khmer National Park that can be seen out my back window. This was taken right before sunset on my rooftop. The sun sets behind Bokor every day.
One day my husband and I decided to take a spur of the moment trip up the mountain just to ride and see what we could see. It was a hot day, but as we steadily climbed the mountain by motorcycle the temperature dropped significantly…and here I was in shorts and a t-shirt. As we reached the top, we came to an overlook of the city of Kampot. It was so interesting to see our “home” town from this angle. The river runs right through the center of town, and just out of frame to the right, it dumps out into the ocean.
At one point, the roads to the top of Bokor Mountain were very bad and dangerous to your vehicle. (They would actually charge you more if you rented a motorcycle from Kampot and were going up Bokor.) However, in the past few years, the government has worked hard to redo this road. Farther up the mountain we began to see traces of the past on this mountain.
I know at the top of the mountain there are several abandoned buildings left from the early-mid 1900s, but when we reached the top, it was cloudy, rainy, and we could see very little.
We will take another trip at some point to see the old French buildings. In the meantime, they have built a new hotel and casino at the top of the mountain for guests. We stopped there for some Vietnamese Pho soup to warm up.

We heard from some friends who work there that they will complete a movie theater in a few months. Yes, we will have a movie theater in driving distance from our house! How exciting!
